A joint project for Somali and Arabic speaking women living in The Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Al-Hasaniya and Midaye have been in partnership for the past 5 years. The project is funded by The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Public Health (NHS) and aims to offer holistic advice and guidance around health and well-being through a range of activities and services.
We aim to provide the women with support to gain skills, and provide them with information on services available to them in the borough to enable them to take more control of their own physical and mental well-being.
We know that our service users experience many of the same health related problems, especially depression and isolation that can lead to physical health problems and general dislocation from mainstream society.
This project is designed to offer one to one support, physical activity, confidence building. The project also supports the women to be self-reliant and independent, as it will provide them with the skills and knowledge to make informed choices and give them the confidence to advocate for themselves. It will enable them to access health services more effectively therefore preventing health problems increasing. As many studies have shown exercise contributes directly to health improvement.
This project supported 97 women last year
